An exquisite take on a modern farmhouse, one of Edmonton’s newest lottery homes, is also part modern fun house.

While there’s plenty for the adults, including an open-to-above entryway with an eye-catching shiplap wall accent feature, the house’s lower level includes a climbing wall and an oh-so-cute children’s playhouse space with its own smaller doorway.

“Modern farmhouse is very popular, we’re seeing a lot them lately,” said Lauren Hochhausen, sales experience and marketing manager for Kimberley Homes — the builder of this Cash and Cars 2022 Edmonton lottery home valued at more than $1.1 million. “We’ve given this home a bit of an eclectic touch. We really want it to feel warm and comfortable.”

The main floor’s open concept space — kitchen, dining and great rooms — has a bright, airy feel that will get a finishing touch when wood beams are added to the ceiling to fully accentuate the modern farmhouse take. Navy kitchen cabinets with gold hardware add that eclectic but contemporary look and feel.

Upstairs, the bonus room takes on the modern country style as the shiplap from the entryway ties into this second storey space, a comfy zone that is home to one of the home’s three fireplaces. Meanwhile, this level’s sleeping quarters all make a statement.

The principal suite has an elegant feel with wainscoting — at about three-quarters of the wall height — transporting you into a boutique hotel-like room. There are dual walk-in closets, a spacious ensuite with a freestanding tub and walk-in shower, with shades of black, white and a hint of grey giving off a rich, contemporary vibe. The same colour scheme gets a variation in one of the two other bedrooms where Buffalo Plaid wallpaper — in black and white — creates a striking backdrop. The third bedroom goes for a bit of a softer touch with a colourful floral wallpaper adding pinks and greens.

On the lowest level, which also includes a guest bedroom, it’s about fun and unwinding. The climbing wall is highlighted by a forest mural on an adjacent wall, there’s a chalk board for the kids and the playhouse is equipped like a mini kitchen. For the adults, there’s a lounge with a fireplace, and a bar with a wine fridge along with a glass enclosed wine display case.

This home, Kimberley’s Ruby model, comes in at 2,559 square feet — 3,406 square feet if you add the finished basement — and marks the 13th year in a row Kimberley has done the Edmonton home for Cash and Cars.

“Kimberley Homes is honoured to be a part of the Cash and Cars Lottery program year after year,” said Hochhausen. “It is a privilege to be a part of the care and life-changing support that the Alberta Cancer Foundation provides families affected by this disease. We believe it is important to build up our communities, not just in the literal sense, but in ways that support and contribute to causes that affect so many families.”

This marks the 23rd edition of the Cash and Cars lottery with proceeds going to support Alberta’s 17 cancer centres, including Edmonton’s Cross Cancer Institute, by helping cancer patients and their families with enhanced care programs and contributions to cancer research and detection.

“Last year, we raised $2.2 million and over the past 22 years, we’ve raised $37 million,” said Ryan Campbell, director, corporate relations for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “Over the past five years, more than 5,500 of our fellow Albertans have taken part in 500 trials. The Alberta Cancer Foundation supports every cancer clinical trial that takes place in Alberta.”
