With August becoming September, what better time to celebrate friends, family, and the spectacular products of our home province? Our farmers’ markets are overflowing with local produce and the bounty of the sea is never more than a short drive away.

The ownership and staff at Harvest Wines are also committed to local products. Their online store, harvestwines.ca, has a wondrous variety of local craft beers, ciders, ready to drink beverages, spirits, and of course, great local wines. They are even giving 10% off orders with promo code 7RRXXT75 between Aug. 26 to Sept. 25.

“We live in a fantastic period for local beer, wine, spirits and cider,” says Harvest Wines product consultant, Brodie Cook. “It’s a pleasure to work alongside these producers and present high-quality products to our customers. Seeing our partners in the industry continue to raise the bar in what they deliver, means we can showcase our local excellence as much as supporting their effort.”

If you are considering a local theme while entertaining, instead of the classic cheese and meat charcuterie board, try a "sea-cuterie” board to feature local seafood and accompaniments for a new and exciting spin on the popular platter.

Five Tips for Building a Sea-Cuterie Board

As for what to serve with the board; crisp, fresh local beverages are a great match. For a perfect pairing, the team at Harvest Wines suggests one of their curated ‘Hand Picked by Harvest’ Tidal Bay 3-Packs. Harvest has crafted two of these great Tidal Bay packs celebrating Nova Scotia’s terroir.

What is terroir? It is a French term, used in the wine industry to describe the influence of geography, aspect, climate, and culture of a wine. It simply means when it comes to the taste of a wine, place matters.

Hand-Picked by Harvest: Wolfville Tidal Bay Trio

The three wines selected for this hand-picked 3-pack are made at wineries buttressed against the Minas Basin. All are located just minutes outside of Wolfville. Here they benefit directly from the moderation of the basin, which is just a stone’s throw away from each winery.

Mercator Tidal Bay - Mercator occupies a quaint little farm overlooking the Midas Basin. Their Tidal Bay wines are delicate, fresh and subtle. Expect lots of citrus fruit flavours and little salty edge on the palate. This wine is a must and enjoy with freshly shucked oysters. Lightfoot & Wolfville Tidal Bay - Why we love it? First of all, it’s certified organic and secondly it is really fresh, made up of about 50 per cent L’Acadie Blanc, 25 per cent Chardonnay and the rest Germanic varietals. This wine comes with a nice balance of delicate sweetness and acidity. Pair this one with simple seafood dishes.

Domaine de Grand Pré Tidal Bay - This is a more aromatic style, with stone fruit and citrus flavours along with the floral and exotic fruit aromas. That extra character lets it pair with a little more flavourful seafood, such as shrimp Pad Thai.

Hand-Picked by Harvest: Gaspereau Valley Tidal Bay Trio

The Gaspereau Valley is contained within the Annapolis Valley. It is a special piece of Nova Scotia wine country, with a diverse mix of soils, benefitting from natural and moderating air current that follows the meandering Gaspereau River.

L’Acadie Vineyards Tidal Bay - An uncompromising showcase of the ancient seabed soils, terroir of L’Acadie Vineyards. This is the driest, and crispest Tidal Bay wine.

Luckett Tidal Bay - If L’Acadie’s version is edgy and dry, then this one is fresh and balanced. It is the kind of Tidal Bay you crack the bottle and finish without hardly realizing it.

Benjamin Bridge Tidal Bay - Benjamin Bridge makes wines with as little intervention as possible to capture the authentic characteristics of the grapes and the land they come from. The result is a fresh style with some floral aromatics, a little salty character and great length.
