Check your fridge, coffee lovers. A major recall has been issued for cases of popular Starbucks beverages sold in stores nationwide.

On Sept. 26, 2021, the FDA initiated a nationwide recall for more than 250,000 cases of Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso drinks in three flavors. The drinks are now nearing their best-by date of Mar. 28.

The recall was initiated due to an issue with the sealing of the cans, meaning the product, which contains milk, could spoil much quicker than it indicates on the packaging. 

Consuming spoiled milk products can cause food poisoning that may result in uncomfortable digestive symptoms, such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

PepsiCo says three flavors of the beverage are included: Espresso & Cream, Espresso & Light Cream and Espresso & Salted Caramel Cream. 

The “best-by” date on each is Mar. 28. Those who still have any of the drinks are advised to throw them out or return to the place of purchase for a full refund.

PepsiCo, a global food and beverage corporation, owns brands such as Pepsi and Mountain Dew. The corporation has partnered with Starbucks since the 1990s, to help market, sell and distribute its ready-to-drink coffee and energy beverages. 

Starbucks canned beverages are available for purchase in physical retail stores nationwide and on Amazon. 

Last year, Starbucks was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging a Rhode Island man and other consumers were duped into purchasing Starbucks’ vanilla frappuccinos made with fake flavoring instead of real vanilla.

These were costly drinks. Starbucks can proactively credit retailers who look up CC receipts of those who bought and issue refunds accordingly. Why all the unnecessary paperwork?
