A FIRE broke out in a city food store in the middle of the night.

A fridge caught fire in a shop in Gresham Road, Dines Green, filling the property with smoke.

Three crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene on Gresham Road at approximately 1.31am.

The area was filled with smoke after a refrigerator caught fire, and there was fear that the smoke may have spread to flats above the shop.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: " We had three crews from Worcester attend the incident and on our arrival, we discovered the property was thoroughly filled with smoke.

"The fire to the refrigerator was extinguished using a standard hose reel jet.

"We checked the above properties to ensure the smoke had not spread further. There were no casualties reported at the scene."
